What I've eaten:

Blueberry Pie from KT & RO

I didn't actually drink it. I just like the label.

What I've made (and eaten)

Sprinkles: Yellow, pink and blue food coloring and ground green tea.

The pie was something my good friend's husband ordered for her birthday and it was delicious. We'd gone to Arrington last Saturday and even though it was pouring down rain, it was a blast. They had the fireplace going, it was toasty on their patio and the sips of Riesling I had were quite good. I'm not a wine drinker, I go by flavor and I liked it.

Macarons: I think I've found a recipe I like, I just need to master it but this one worked out well even though they didn't rise as much as I'd hoped. The book is Macarons: Chic and Delicious French Treats by Annie Rigg. I bought mine from Anthropologie. It requires a couple more ingredients and steps than the previous recipe I used but a) it was simpler overall, b) yielded better pieds (feet) and c) the shells themselves weren't hollow or greasy looking. Will be trying again soon and updating you all on progress. For these I used a Swiss Meringue Buttercream filling, and instead of using vanilla I flavored it a little with some essence of Pandan (or as it's known here, Screwpine leaf). It has its own wonderful aroma and flavor and makes things a pretty, pastel green.

Here's the thing though - I don't actually like eating macarons. They stick to my teeth, and because they're so sweet I can usually only handle one, maybe two. Luckily I have friends who do enjoy them and they make awesome gifts so I'm happy to make more (and more and more).
