Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers for my 2nd baby Mona. She's still really lethargic but the vet gave her a shot to help with her stomach and she's been given antibiotics to take.
After blood tests, an EKG and a chest x-ray, it was determined that she has a very small liver (a shunt) and it hasn't been able to filter the toxins out of her system and they've just been flowing back into her digestive organs, causing her an upset stomach. She had a fever of 103˚ and he explained that the reason she's sluggish is because she "feels puny and feels like how we do when we have the flu."
She's all dog though, and I know she's doing her best to be a good dog and wag her tail and sit and love us the way she knows how everyday when she sees us but the harder she tries, the more it seems to hurt and she can't do much more than run to us and sit. She hacks every now and then, like she has something in her chest she can't quite cough out and is generally out of sorts but the doctor thinks she'll be ok.
I take her back to the vet tomorrow morning for a follow up. In the meantime, all we can do is give her the meds and monitor her. As for the liver.... that "disease" is something we'll have to deal with after we're over this current bump.
Thank you again, I really appreciate it. I'm glad my friends are all people who love and appreciate animals.
